One of Silver Skate Festival’s largest grants has been cut by 70% in the last three years.
Overall, we’ve seen a decrease in grant funding across the board.
These cuts come amidst increased attendance (which we love! but need support keeping up with), additional infrastructure needs and rising inflation.

Cause

The Silver Skate Festival offers FREE theatre, music, snow sculptures, fire sculptures, registered winter races, winter cinema, recreational, cultural activities, demonstrations and activities by our community members. All of our programming celebrates winter stories, including those of our neighbours and friends as well as our long standing relationships with Indigenous Knowledge Keepers, cultural groups and organizations enriching our communities. Because the festival attracts people from all walks of life who are drawn to it for various reasons, the festival serves as a meeting ground for people to discover new things. As the festival is free to attend, it allows everyone to experience winter activities regardless of income.
